Bad smells are good, in a way ~ they connote decay, Nature's way of recycling. While no application of microbes and moisture will induce your old VCR to rot, there is a way to properly recycle it and other ewaste ~ thus reducing the "ew" factor.

Start now looking in your garage, basement, attic and closets for outdated TVs, computers, stereos, phones and other electronic equipment. Then, on the morning of April 22, Earth Day, bring them to the University of Utah for a massive recycling event.

For details on what you can bring, where to bring it, and why it's important to properly recycle those toys and tools of yesteryear, go here:

http://www.sustainability.utah.edu/initiatives/erecyclingday2009.htm

Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet

This noon (Friday) CATALYST arts writer Amie Tullius and I dropped by the Salt Lake City Main Library to see the Cedarlake Ballet Company perform in the library auditorium. It had been described as an “installation”; we didn’t have a clue how that would work, and were curious to see. What we saw was more than amazing. I’ve seen quite a bit of dance through the years but I must say I saw moves here that I’ve never seen before. The “installation” aspect was the most delightful: Dancers were on the wide open staircase, inserting themselves into the ample crowd, and ~ most fun of all ~ dancing in the moving glass elevators.
I’m not clear on why they call themselves ballet instead of modern dance. Modern they certainly are, down to the choreography, music and costumes. They perform tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 7) night at Kingsbury. No glass elevators, but my guess is they’ll have other surprises up their sleeves. And, minus such clever delighters, the dancing is very, very good. http://www.cedarlakedance.com/
See them Sat., February 7, at Kingsbury hall.
