Have a beer, hear a bird talk

This month's "Science Night Live!" (presented by U of U's College of Science) is Wed, Dec. 9, 5:30-7 p.m. at Keys on Main, 242 South Main St. (next to Sam Weller's bookstore). Invite a friend, make a date, and stop by after work! Come early, stay for dinner if you like. Learn about"Nature's Musicians: How and Why Birds Sing" from biology professor Franz Goller.

Did you know certain songbirds can turn elements of their song on or off up to 250 times per second!? Songbirds learn their songs in a process similar to how human infants learn to speak. We can learn much from songbird vocal behavior about our own acoustic communication system.

Ride the UTA TRAX to the Gallivan Plaza stop. Or, there is limited street parking available on 200 South and 300 South that is free after 6:00 pm. Perhaps the easiest parking is in the Wells Fargo building lot, accessible from 300 South. See www.keysonmain.com for more info, or call (801) 581-6958.

Urban goats?

We'd like to learn more about keeping goats in the city. If you keep goats, email pax@catalystmagazine.net! We'd love to come by and ask you all about the pros and cons, and see your setup!

You're invited: Mayor Ralph @ Mayors' Green Team* meeting, Fri., 12/4, noon

Please join Mayor Ralph Becker at this month's Green Team Meeting Friday, December 4th, at 12:00 p.m. in Room #126 of the City & Council Building.

The Mayor is looking forward to addressing this month's Green Team attendees and hearing your ideas on how to create a more sustainable Salt Lake City. Bring your questions, comments and lunch this Friday to the City & County Building!

* Yes, it's "Mayors'," not "Mayor's." This informal, education-oriented group engages citizens with employees of environmental programs for both SL City Mayor Becker and SL County Mayor Peter Corroon. We meet typically on the 3rd Fridays, except this month. Come!
